Floral Skull Scarves • Slurge, Spend or Save

SPLURGE: Alexander McQueen, Rose Silk Scarf at Harrods, £375 (buy here)
I love how iconice Alexander McQueen skull scarf has been reinvented by giving it a more feminine touch with blossoming flowers, available in so many variations like this pink rose, repeat pattern above - but no matter how gorgeous the print is and how amazing the quality of silk is, it doesn't erase the fact they are nearly four hundred pounds each, which for most of us a just asking too much, therefore I am here to show you how you can get the same look for less in this months Splurge, Spend or Save.
SPEND: Topshop: Cream Skull Scarf, £22 (buy here)
Up until very recently Topshop had a gorgeous silk scarf with a skull and pink rose print which seems to have deemed itself very popular as it is now sold out, so unfortunately only the grey and white one is left but nonetheless it is still a fabulous scarf and is a more subtle option for those who maybe don't like too much colour - this scarf would also go with a lot more due to its neutral palette.

TIP: Don't just wear scarf the conventional way, be creative and get your moneys worth by using them as head scarves, around your wrists, on bags for a personalised touch and even as waist belts!
SAVE: Bank: Floral Skull Print Scarf, £10 (buy here)
For those of you who adore the Alexander McQueen scarf due to the vibrant floral print then this is the best and cheapest alternative for you, at just ten pounds each. These scarves look great all year round because they can be worn on slightly chillier summer nights yet they are lightweight enough to layer up an outfit during the hot summer days without making you too warm, yet in the winter they add a nice pop of colour to brighten up any drab rainy day.

Which scarf is your favourite?

Military Touches • Galaxy Essential Upgrades

This post is bought to you on behalf of Galaxy Essential Upgrades

Trends are changing all the time and just when you've suited and booted yourself with the latest one, a new one pops up out of nowhere and you’re left feeling out of sync yet again, so why not be savvy with trends and save a bit of money by embracing new trends through accessorising; accessories are the best way to incorporate the latest trends into your look because you stay up-to-date yet your bank balance will thank you.

TIP: Invest in whole outfits according to trends if you know you will still wear them in the future but trends you are unsure about and you’re just experimenting then look for cheaper options.

A huge trend for this autumn/winter is military which means we are seeing a lot of army jackets, masculine footwear and brass buttons with a green and brown palette. If you only want to dabble in this trend for AW12 then here are some pieces I have gathered together as inspiration if you're struggling to grasp the military trend and don't want to give an arm and a leg to do so.

1. Topshop: Petite Camouflage Army Jacket, £48 (buy here)
This army jacket is a must have this season and perfect for autumn when you just need a lightweight coat for those blustery yet not freezing days. This one from Topshop is proving to be very popular in high-street fashion lately but if you can't bare to spend almost fifty pounds on it then why not check on eBay, at your local charity shop or any vintage shop in London and you are bound to find one for a fraction of the price.

2. River Island: Green Rucksack, £30 (buy here)
If all else fails on the bag front then why not have a peek in the mens section, that's what I find myself doing majority of the time because you find awesome bags such as this one from River Island (at first I thought this bag was blue but according to the website it's a dark green) and for a bag that is so durable and handy, it is a bargain. A rucksack is great for school or if you're travelling and this one screams bang on trend rather than nerdy school kid (yes in my first year on secondary school I was one of those students with knee-high socks, a skirt down to my shins and a very uncool, hugh rucksack on both shoulders, heavy enough to topple me over... and moving on!)

3. Essie: Nail Polish in Sew Psyched, £5.33 (buy here)
Nail polish is one of the cheapest ways to upgrade your look and capture new trends - here I chose Sew Psyched by Essie which is a lovely khaki colour, perfect for the military trend.

4. Topshop: Plain Viscose Scarf, £12 (buy here)
As the evenings start to get chillier, why not stay warm in style with this green scarf from Topshop. Scarves are great way to layer and upgrade your look as well as being practical during the cold winter months.

5. ASOS: Plate Detail Skinny Waist Belt, £15 (buy here)
Wearing the military trend doesn't mean you have to portray a frumpy, masculine look so cinch in your waist with a belt and show off those womanly curves. I love the old chain detail on this skinny belt from ASOS and the gold metal plates add a toughness to any ensemble.

6. Topshop: Stud Lace Up Boots, £88 (buy here)
Well aren't these floral Dr. Marten style boots from Topshop just adorable? Stay on trend but keep your girly vibe by wearing tough biker boots with a floral print - a tad on the pricey side but they will be long lasting and get you through anything the winter weather throws at you.

Will you be sporting the military trend this autumn/winter?

My Top 5 Key Pieces • AW12

I am part of the Next Blogger community and whilst I was browsing their blog I came across a competition where the winners are given the opportunity to guest post about their style picks on their Style Secrets Blog as well as winning three outfits (up to £150) - for more information on the competition go here. For the competition I chose to blog about my Top 5 Key Pieces for this autumn/winter because I thought it would be nice to share with my lovely readers what I have been wearing the most going into AW12!

1. Topshop: Oversized Boyfriend Coat, £89 (buy here)
Alongside the army jacket, boyfriend style coats are a huge trend this autumn/winter and this navy blue one from Topshop with chocolate leather detailing on the collar and pockets is perfect an androgynous look. My boyfriend style coat has already played a big roll in my outfits this month as autumn creeps in and I love to pair it with a dress for that androgynous meets girly feel - teaming a boyfriend coat with girlier garments will make your look go from tom boy to stylish in seconds!

2. Topman: Red Tartan Scarf, £14 (buy here)
I am obsessed with my new tartan scarf from ASOS and apparently everyone else is feeling tartan this season as it is now sold out, but not to fret because I have found one almost identical from Topman (like I always say, if you can't find something like a bag, hat or scarf you want then take a ganders in the mens section because you might find some real treasures). Red tartan scarves go with almost anything and my favourite item to combine mine with is my boyfriend style coat - a tartan scarf makes a nice change from the conventional chunky knit scarf this autumn/winter.

3. Essie: Nail Polish in Poor Lil' Rich Girl, $8 (buy here)
As the evenings draw darker, so do our nail polishes and as much as I have loved wearing playful pastels last spring/summer, I am looking forward to showing my darker side. Poor Lil' Rich Girl by Essie is a gorgeous deep berry colour, perfect for autumn/winter and will go with any outfit. I like to wear dark nail polishes that almost look black but when they hit a certain light you see another colour seeping through, whether that be a vampy purple or a blood red.

4. Topshop: Mini Roller Hat, £25 (buy here)
I have always been a lover of bowler hats, I wear them come rain or shine but for AW12 I thought why not try a bowler hat in a khaki green for a subtle take on the military trend as well as a more earthy, autumnal feel. Bowler hats add a playful, sophisticated look to any outfit - wear with a dress for a cute and girly look or wear with jeans and a buttoned up shirt for a feminine, grown-up take on the androgynous look.

5. Office: Mickey Kingston Black Leather Shors, £55 (buy here)
Ankle boots have been a a key item in my wardrobe for years now and I shan't be stopping this year; my brogue ankle boots from Office are my favourite because they go with anything and not to mention they are so comfortable. To bring them a little more up-to-date this autumn/winter I like to team them up with ankle socks peeping over the top, some days I will go for the girly look with a white frilly pair or other days I will go for a more subtle look with plain black woollen socks.

What are your key pieces for AW12?

Aran Cardigan at ASOS • RiRi Loves

(left) dark red (middle) cream (right) charcoal, £35 each
A few years ago I was obsessed with an oversized cable knit cardigan I had from Topshop and I wasn't the only one as it seemed like everyone had the same cream cardigan with big faux leather brown buttons. Recently I have found my love again for oversized cardigans and these chunky cable knit cones from ASOS (buy here) are ideal for this autumn/winter.

These aran cable knit cardigans come in three varieties of colour - dark red, cream, and charcoal but which ever colour your prefer doesn't matter as each one goes really well with most outfits. I love to wear an oversized cardigan with a chiffon dress and tights to give it a more cosy and girly vibe, whilst teaming a chunky cardigan with a high waisted pair of jeans and beanie gives your look a more laid back feel.

What are your thoughts on oversized cable knit cardigans?

Festive Yankee Candles at Macys • Pick of the Week

(left) christmas cookie, (middle) sparkling cinnamon (right) balsam and cedar, £22.57 each (prices may vary)
I don't know about you but I am already getting in the Christmas spirit, despite my boyfriend telling me it's way too soon, but it's impossible not to get excited when retail outlets are already stocking festive goodies and winter doesn't just mean Christmas, it also means it's my birthday, therefore it would be wrong not to get a little excited!

To ease us into the holiday season I have chosen some festive smelling candles by Yankee Candle as my pick of the week because there is nothing that I love more than lighting up a candle to make my bedroom feel cosy - I am excited to try the scent Christmas Cookie (buy here) as well as Spiced Orange (buy here).

I always used to think Yankee Candles were a bit on the pricey side, I still do, but after trying out cheaper brands that smelt sickly and artificial, I realised you get your moneys worth with Yankee Candles. If you don't want to spend over twenty pounds on just one candle, then why not buy a few scents in the smaller varieties or try on of these small jar sets from littlewoods.com: Sparkling Snow, Sparkling Cinnamon and Christmas Eve (buy here) or White Christmas, Red Apple Wreath and Christmas Tree (buy here).

Yankee Candle sell even more scents than the ones I have mentioned above, including Spiced Pumpkin, Mulled Wine and Apple and Pine, just to name a few, so there is something for everyone!

Do you have a favourite scent for the festive season?

Wish List • September 2012

1. Topshop: Camo Army Jacket, £48 (buy here)
No doubt you are sick of seeing these army style jackets everywhere but I still love them nonetheless and I need one in my life. I have had my eye on this one from Topshop for a while now and even though I know I can get one for a fraction of the price on eBay or at a vintage shop, I am really picky when it comes to little details on a garment, therefore I am yet to find one cheaper that I like just as much.

2. Topshop: Metal Chevron Keeper Belt, £18 (buy here)
This burgundy belt (yes it is burgundy, not brown) is the perfect colour for this autumn/winter and the gold chevron keeper detailing is well in-keeping with this years military trend.

3. Topshop: Matisse Tan Leather Boots, £40 (buy here)
I was having a browse in Topshop with my best friend the other day and even though I don't need any more shoes in my wardrobe (especially ankle boots as my black brogue boots from Office (buy here) are still going strong from last winter) but when I saw these I let out a little scream because they are so cute - if I were to buy these in the future I would purchase the brown leather boots instead of the black because I have enough black ones so it is nice to have a change!

What items are on your wishlist this month?

Topshop stores have been hit with a splash of sequins and extravagant colour this season with designs by Louise Gray. Topshop and Gray collaborated to create an exciting and innovative collection of clothing and makeup ranging from sequinned dresses and trousers, to playful lipsticks and gorgeous pastel coloured makeup brushes. The collection may be a matter of love or hate but either way you have to appreciate the pure creativity and fun that has gone into each product!

"Get ready to dazzle with iridescence. 1. Polka Dot Sequin Jacket, £165 (buy here)
If you're feeling bold and brave then why not try standing out from the party in this polka dot sequin jacket but if you don't want to come across too 'over the top' then keep the rest of your clothing minimal and stand tall in some platform shoes - it's sure to be a head turner!

2. Lipstick in Mexican Wave, £10 (buy here)
I have a soft spot for lipsticks, especially when they're in traffic stopping colours like this one by Louise Gray in a fabulous bright orange colour - wear with a classic LBD to add a pop of colour this season.

3. Glitter Pots in Peacock, £8 (buy here)
Before we know it, the Christmas works do's and the New Years house Parties will be in full throttle and what better way to celebrate by adding a bit of sparkle to your look with this circular and heart shaped holographic glitter - there is only one time of the year that adults can get away with a face full of sparkle, and that's the Christmas/New Years party scene, so make the most of it!

My Daily Makeup Routine • 2012

One of my most requested videos on YouTube is to do an updated daily makeup routine so here it is, finally!

Hope you enjoyed the video and it gave you a few tips, but if not then hopefully you just have a good old chuckle at my expense whilst I had a little sing song and injured myself in the making of this video!

Vintage Dungarees Short at Urban Outfitters • RiRi Loves

urban outfitters: vintage renewal dungarees shorts, £38
I have been wanting a pair of dungarees for such a long time now but it is so hard to find a pair that are a perfect fit and don't make you look like you've jumped straight back into play school, but the other day when I was browsing online at Urban Outfitters I came across a vintage pair and I love them (buy here).

There are a few ways you can wear dungarees - you can let the bib complete hang down for a casual look, have the bib half up, half down for a laid back look or you can brave going for the bib completely up for a more polished look. I would personally wear these completely up with a crispy white shirt underneath for a smart but cute vibe, and then I would add my Jeffrey Campbell Lita's (buy here) and a red lip - dungarees are hard to pull of so I say don't be wearing them half-heartedly, go big or go home!

The only downfall to these dungarees is that they are vintage renewal so you aren't guaranteed to get a pair exactly like the ones you see in the photograph but you can always return/exchange them!

How would you style a pair of denim dungarees?

Fur Collar Coat at Topshop • Pick of the Week

topshop: short faux fur collar swing coat, £75
Topshop never seems to disappoint when it comes to winter coats, in fact I have bought my annual winter coat there for the past several years. I have always gone for the short swing style coats because apart from visually looking nice, they are perfect for more petite ladies in both build and height - for AW12 Topshop have bought out this navy swing coat (buy here) with silver, metal clasp fastenings and a faux fur collar.

The great thing about swing coats is that they are perfect for both smart and casual occasions as well as being worn with both dresses and jeans. Team this coat up with a pair of skinny jeans and some Victorian style booties for a cosy and cute look or drape over your LBD in the party season.

Although Topshop like to hike up their prices, in this case I think it is worth it because you are getting a coat that is going to keep you warm all winter and for winters to come - I still wear a Topshop coat that I bought three years ago!

Have you got your eye on a new winter coat?

Uniqueness 2.01 Collection • Fashion Focus

I wanted to introduce you to a company I found out about not so long ago whilst I was browsing the internet, they're name? Uniqueness! and I am here to show your their new collection, Uniqueness 2.01. The garments are a lot different from what I normally feature on my blog but it's all about variety in the fashion industry and I couldn't help but fall in love with the playful yet sophisticated vibe of the collection. The images above only show a snippet of the collection as online you'll see the use of bold blues, pretty pinks and ravishing reds woven into the collection but my favourites have to be the sorbet coloured garments.
Between the 15th and 17th September there is a pop-up store located in South Molton Street, London if you fancy having a ganders at the collection in person. I love the preview video they produced for the collection which I have embedded below for you to have a sneak peek at - enjoy!

I appreciate that a lot of my readers are students, therefore you probably cannot afford items with such an extravagant price tag, hell I can't afford it either but I thought some of you would still like to have your eyes opened to a new company and their gorgeous collection. If you are lucky enough to afford their prices then shop the Uniqueness 2.01 collection here!

Diesel Sheer Knitted Maxi Dress at ASOS • RiRi Loves

diesel: sheer knitted maxi dress, £100 at asos

As soon as I saw this sheer maxi dress on ASOS (buy here) I took an instant liking to it but then realised the price and thought I best put my purse away - I still wanted to share it with you lovelies though! The dress is made from a lightweight viscose and linen blend fabric and has been cut with a column fit, which basically means it is a straight up and down shape. Initially most people would shy away from a dress like this as it doesn't seem easy to style, so that is where I come in and to tell you it isn't as hard as you first thought.

I love the way ASOS have styled the maxi dress is the photos above but I reckon you'd get too many odd looks if you were to casually stroll down to the supermarket like that, so why not cover up a little more with a black slip like this one from Nasty Gal which will leave you with just your arms and legs subtly showing through the sheer knit. Add a pair of Docs or some heeled chelsea boots and you're ready to rocks this dress. For a more summery, feminine vibe go for either a neon or pastel coloured slip or a floral slip to brighten up the grunge feel of this dress.

How would you style this sheer knitted maxi dress?

Flatform Shoes at Jeffrey Campbell • Pick of the Week

jeffrey campbell: beebee,  £96.76
Not the most practical shoes I have to admit but my word are they just amazing! Jeffrey Campbell can never go wrong in my eyes and even though a lot of his designs would be a safety risk to walk, I wish I had the money to buy all of them to just admire at home *drool*. These black Nubuck flatforms have a three inch heel and a two and a half inch platform making them not the easiest shoes to walk it but after some practice flatforms in general, are easier to walk it. If you're worried about your feet falling out of a pair of flatforms (as I know a lot of people complain about that happening) then buy a pair with an ankle strap, like the JC Beebee because it secures your foot in place a lot more than you would imagine.

The Jeffrey Campbell flatforms aren't the best thing for your wallet, but most JC lovers, including myself, prefer a more extreme take on a style of shoe therefore these are for the true 'shoeaholics' out there. For those of you wanting a cheaper and maybe less dangerous alternative then why not check out the Vera Pointed flatform at ASOS (buy here) for a much more acceptable £25!

These would look great with a pair of black skinny jeans, crisp white shirt, a black leather jacket and a red lip, or if you prefer a girlier vibe, then team with a chiffon dress and knee-high socks. What's your opinion on flatforms?

For a lazy day, I just wear a pair of sneakers (Vans, Converse...) or loafers, a white buttoned-up with a large necklace and a sweater over it. For a night out, I would style Jeffrey Campbell Litas with some high waisted skinny jeans, a peter pan collared top, a fluor cardigan and a bowler hat"

There are also a people who's sense of style I greatly admire, such as Alexa Chung, Florence Welch, Alice Dellal, Charlotte Free and Sky Ferreira. One of the things that I love most about fashion is the fact that it's always changing and evolving, so the chances of it becoming boring are slim to none. I'm an avid lover of vintage clothing, so I love vintage shops and markets, as well as browsing my local charity shops for a good bargain or unique piece. When it comes to high-street shops, my favourites are definitely Urban Outfitters and Topshop."
