Wish List • October 2012

1. Topshop: Rose Prom Dress by Love, £38 (buy here)
Just because it is winter, doesn't mean we have to put our dresses away until next year, it just means we have to bring them into this season by exchanging the bright colours for darker autumnal ones and layering up with cardigans and scarves to keep warm, simple! I love this chiffon dress from Topshop - the tiny floral print makes the dress girly but not too 'in your face' whilst the sheer keyhole top brings the garment into a more  evening wear piece. I would style this with thick woollen tights and ankle boots (like the ones above) in the day and in the evening I would pair with a sheer pair of black tights, black ankles socks and my Jeffrey Campbell Litas.

2. Butter London: Nail Polish in Macbeth, $14 (buy here)
I am yet to buy a nail polish from Butter London so I am on a mission to make my first purchase. I love true red nail polishes but I have yet to find a good quality one - I rekon Macbeth by Butter London would be perfect!

3. ASOS: Suede Fringe Across Body Bag, £25 (buy here)
Since my small black over the shoulder bag broke on holiday, I haven't had a simple 'going out' bag and I think every girl needs a black clutch bag for nights out as they go with everything - this suede fringed bag from ASOS is great for nights out.

4. Office: Dillydally Black Leather Shoes, £65 (buy here)
I love these ankle boots from Office and in my eyes, they are a classic - wear them with jeans, skirts, dresses.. anythng!

What's your favourite piece from this months wish list?

No Mirror Makeup Challenge

I am probably the only one that hasn't done the no mirror makeup challenge on YouTube so here it finally is; for those unfamiliar with the challenge, the aim is to apply your makeup without the help of any mirrors - it sounds easier than it is!

Next Winter Wardrobe • Competition Entry

Next are holding a Winter Wardrobe competition which is being hosted by Amy at http://www.amyantoinette.com - to enter you simple created three winter looks using Next's own brand collections and as this is something I do on an almost daily basis on my blog, I thought I'd have a crack at it.

More information can be found here.

1. Blue Green Tartan Scarf, £14 (buy here)   2. Black Braces, £10 (buy here)
3. Berry Trousers, £38 (buy here)   4. Navy Jacket with Leather Look Trim, £60 (buy here)
5. Perfect White Shirt, £35 (buy here)   6. Blacked Heeled Loafers, £46 (buy here)

The androgynous look is all about the perfect balance between masculine and feminine, so don't be afraid to try out the more tailored look because at the end of the day you can still add as little or as much of your feminine touch as you like. I love these high waisted trousers as they give off a really classy vibe and is a different take on the average suit trouser. Heeled loafers are perfect for this look because they're a wonderful take on the classic mens loafer. Wrap up warm this winter with a boyfriend style coat and a tartan scarf - both uber on trend!

1. Black Snake Mix Boots, £40 (buy here)
2. Deco Flock Shift Dress, £60 (buy here)   3. Leopard Print Faux Fur Jacket, £65 (buy here)

Faux fur coats are a great way to stay warm this winter but still feel fabulous in your party attire. I have kept the colour palette very neutral as a fur coat is a statement piece in its self, therefore I have gone for a sleek black dress and heels and kept the detail in the fabric and cut. Shoe boots can be hard to pull off as they have a habit of shortening the leg and giving the illusion of bigger ankles, but these shoes are perfect as the cut out in the front will give you a sexy slimline look to your legs.

1. Khaki Four Pocket Jacket, £42 (buy here)   2. Oversized Jumper, £28 (buy here)
3. Black Skinny Jeans, £24 (buy here)   4. Reversible Beanie, £7 (buy here)
5. Black Toe Stud Ankle Boots, £55 (buy here)

The last outfit is kept casual with knits and studded ankle boots. Any form of khaki jacket, whether it be a parka or army jacket, is a key piece for AW12 so style it with a classic pair of black skinny jeans and a warm jumper. Add a burgundy coloured beanie for a touch of autumnal colour (burgundy also goes well with grey and khaki) and a pair of ankle boots with stud detailing will give you a comfortable but stylish look.

Hope you liked the outfits I put together, I had a lot of fun doing it - took forever but was worth it!

Let me know what winter look will you be sporting this autumne/winter and which outfit is your favourite?

Mini Accessories Giveaway (CLOSED)

A while back I wrote about an online vintage boutique called Edited (read here) and I was kindly sent a couple of items from the website along with a belt to give away to my lovely readers; I thought I would add a couple of other items so along with the silver belt, I shall be giving away a black circular pair of sunglasses (as they're my staple sunglasses) and a pair of gunmetal collar tips (as I never wear a shirt without them).

Navy Cord Skinny Jeans at Topshop • Pick of the Week

topshop: moto navy cord jamie jeans, £40

I have just come back from making a few naughty purchases at Topshop and one of them includes these navy blue cord jeans (buy here); I have been meaning to buy a new pair of the dark blue ankle grazer Jamie Jeans as the belt tags have ripped on mine (that will teach me to use them to get them on after a wash when they're skin tight) and they are getting old now, but these cord jeans caught my eye earlier and I think they're a nice, subtle twist on the classic dark blue skinny and perfect for autumn/winter - cord also ties in nicely with this seasons heritage trend.

Personally, I think Topshop sell some of the best style and quality jeans on the high-street, they always last me a good year or so (depending on how often I wear them of course) and jeans like these cord ones, are so versatile - wear them with chunky knit jumpers, ankle boots and a woollen hat, or smarten them up with a classic white shirt, collar tips and a shoe boot.

These cord jeans are also available in black (buy here) burgundy (buy here) and khaki green (buy here).

What's your opinion on cord jeans or cord in general?

Next Christmas '12 Beauty Collection • Events

I was kindly invited to attend the Next blogger event where they showcased this years Christmas beauty collection at the Hemple Hotel in London, on Wednesday 17th October; I had high hopes for this event due to it being hosted by Next and it didn't disappoint. On arrival I was greeted by many friendly faces and a glass of either champagne, wine or elderflower water (which was pink and looked so cute). It was a really relaxed environment, I met and chatted with a punch of new bloggers and even got my nails painted (there was also eyebrow threading and massages available) and throughout the night, waiters made sure we were all well fed and watered, bringing around mini bowls of food like fish and chips. The location was so modern and fresh - the perfect place to display products as nothing was too distracting!

Next had the cutest displays showing each range of products around the room - above is the Just Pink Range (shop here).

The Tale of Four Cities range has a really nice concept based around four cities across the world: London, New York, Paris and Milan. Each city has a different fragrance depending on it's characteristics and origins e.g. London has a sweet rose smell as roses are a very common flower related to England. This range comes in candles, perfumes and even body lotion - definitely worth a look!

The event really opened my eyes up to the amount of products available at Next - I was totally unaware of the fact they sell Burt's Bees (shop here) and a ton of well known perfumes (shop here).

We were all given a goodie bag when we left and I am so happy with what was inside because when the lovely lady from the Tale of Four Cities display was introducing me to all the scents and products, I wanted so many of the items and guess what? a few were in the goodie bag! I received a luxury fragranced reed diffuser in the scent Milan (buy here) a spa sugar scrub (buy here) and an eau de parfum in the scent New York (buy here) which was one of my favourite scents.

I had a really great time and I hope to be invited to many more Next events in the future!

Swap with clothesencounters

For months now, my friend Jenn (who is also my favourite YouTuber) and I planned to do a swap and we finally got around to sending our parcels to one another during the summer and here is the video. For those of you not familiar with swaps, they are when two YouTubers will set a budget to buy bits and bobs which they then send one another - normally it will be done with YouTubers from different countries as you give each other things the other cannot get where they live. Enjoy!

Check out Jenn's channel here if you have never heard of her which would be crazy because she is amazing, I mean, what have you been doing with your life? But all jokes aside, her channel is amazing and she is the loveliest and most gorgeous girl!

Knitted Grunge Jumper at Topshop • Pick of the Week

topshop: knitted textured grunge jumper, £36

One thing I love more than wearing big woollen socks in the winter is wearing jumpers and if I could wear thick knitted jumpers all year round I would - they're just so snuggley!

This burgundy jumper from Topshop (buy here) is great for this season as deep reds are always a top pick for autumn/winter and looks great on all skin tones. Style this with a shirt underneath, skinny jeans, ankle boots and your favourite winter coat - a kharki green cargo jacket would go amazing with this jumper!

How would you style this jumper?

Pringle of Scotland at Avenue 32 • Fashion Focus

Pringle of Scotland has been around for almost two hundred years and can be found online at Avenue 32 (here) where new Design Director, Alistair Carr has had a huge influence on Pringle of Scotland's pre Fall 2012 collection.

"A new chapter in Pringle of Scotland’s near 200 year-old history now leads Carr's passion for both cutting edge and contemporary luxury design to explore the rich heritage of the brand making this the perfect alliance for Pringle of Scotland" - Avenue 32

I adore the rich colours used throughout the collection and the superb tailoring - my favourite items feature the green textured jacquard because it's such a beautiful fabric and right on trend for AW12. Although these items may be over your budget, as it is mine, we can still appreciate the beautty of the collection and if you're lucky enough to afford a piece or two then why not shop my picks below!

1. Bottle Green Jacquard Dress, £595 (buy here)
I cannot begin to tell you how much I love this dress and it kills me a little inside knowing that it is way out of my price range, but a girl can dream right? Not only is the fabric just gorgeous but the cut and drape of the dress is perfect - team with a pair of lace up heeled boots and a pair of black ankle socks for a quirky take on this look.

2. Midnight Blue Double Breasted coat, £1,195 (buy here)
I am obsessed with well tailored and boyfriend style coats this season and this midnight blue coat is a classic that can be worn for many years to come - would look great with lace up booties.

What's your opinions on the collection?

Lilac Skater Dress at Nasty Gal • RiRi Loves

nasty gal: censored skater dress, £79.32
Alright, so I am fully aware we are definitely into Autumn now but how could you not love this lilac coloured dress by Nasty Gal (buy here); this gorgeous piece has so many of my favourite elements in one: lilac, cut outs, scoop back, high neckline, long sleeves and a sheer mesh on the top half of the dress for a sexy yet classy look.

This dress would make for a lovely party piece during the month of December and will make you stand out from the rest of the crowd; so what if it's not bang on trend for AW12, you'll still look totally fabulous but if you want to make it more winter appropriate then add some plain tights as patterned tights will be too much with such a detailed dress and you don't want to draw attention away from a dress you've spent a fair amount on. For when you're running from party to party, pop on a cape like this one from American Apparel at ASOS with a faux fur muff like this one, for a more vintage take on keeping your hands warm.

A bit on the pricey side but I think it's worth it for a semi- unique piece (by that I mean it isn't from Topshop where someone is more likely to have the same dress as you) that all your friends will be drooling over!

Would you break the mould and wear this dress for AW12?

Tiny Beanie at ASOS • Pick of the Week

asos: tiny beanie, £5
It is time to start thinking about keeping that noggin of yours warm as the cold creeps in during October and a beanie is the best way to go about it because how can you go wrong with an item that's both stylish and practical? In all honestly I am a sucker for sporting the beanie all year round as I love how they can turn any outfit into something more casual as well as being a life saver on bad hair days - this beanie from ASOS (buy here) is a great alternative to your regular navy blue and burgundy coloured beanies and I am sat here wearing exactly the same one as we speak (write).

Now don't worry, just because it is called a 'tiny' beanie doesn't mean it's for people with unusually small heads (I'm hoping that was an unnecessary explanation for you all haha) but it does mean it isn't slouchy like most beanies, therefore it sits nicely on your head. Beanies go with practically anything, but for example today, I have on a basic Topshop dress with knee high socks (buy here), black Converse (buy here), a black leather jacket and my beanie - anything goes!

These tiny beanies are also available in red (buy here) yellow (buy here) black (buy here) navy (buy here) and fleck orange (buy here).

Which style hat will you be wearing this autumn/winter?

How to Dress for a Night Out at the Bar

You and your girlfriends want to go out to have a fun night at the bar, but at the same time don't want to come across as "working girls" or as too easy.  This is especially true if you are going to more of an up scale bar - you are in luck as I have a few tips below on how to dress for a night out at the bar.

Glitzy but Casual

One way to help yourself look both glitzy yet casual at the same time is to pick outfits that gives off a great deal of shine to them. For example a nice metallic colour dress or outfit is a solid choice as it looks very shiny and up scale but not too high class.

Shiny materials also work well when accessorising. It will allow you to show off some of your more shinier looking pins, bracelets, and even belts without looking too out of place.

Flowing but Fun

Another option you can choose is going the route of picking something that is more flowing and fun.  Female poker professional Lacey Jones is the queen of flowing and fun dresses.

If you want to learn how to be fab like the poker Barbie, you can start with looser fitting print and sun dresses.  These not only look great, but are a great choice for those ladies out there that may be expecting or just coming off a pregnancy as they help disguise some of that baby fat.

Don't Show it All

We all know "that girl" who wears the outfit that basically leaves nothing for the imagination when she goes out. Don't be that girl. You can definitely wear something that is a bit tighter or form fitting, but there is no reason to show everything.

Low cut v-necks are good but you don't want half of your assets showing for the world to see. You have to keep in mind that you want to keep things appropriate for the setting whenever possible.

To sum things up in a nutshell, you want an outfit that will catch one's eye but not one that makes them point and stare.  The above tips should give you a solid basis on which to start, and where you go from there will be based on your personal tastes, colour choices, and overall style.
