Whimsical Homeware

Most young girls dream of a fairytale inspired bedroom but who to say you can't add a small sprinkling of magic to your home once you're grown up? I'm officially in my early 20s and I still find ways to add a little whimsical chic to my home, whether that be through the fairy lights around my bed frame or the lanterns in my living room. Here are a selection of my favourite fairytale-esque homeware items inspired by Aurora from the up-and-coming film, Maleficent.

1. Cath Kidston: Bird Cushion Cover, £16 (buy here)   2. Urban Outfitters: Blue Owl Lamp, £30 (buy here)   3. Macy's: Floral Blue Towels, £9.43 - £17.41 (buy here)   4. Anthropologie: Lulu Candle, £20 - £26 (buy here)   5. T-light Holder, £3.95 (buy here)

I'd love to know what style of homeware you go for and what items are on your wish list?

Empties #5 (VIDEO)

My dedicated empties basket (the place I put all my used products to later on review) was spilling over, so it was time to film another empties for you all. I'm always amazed at how many products I managed to use up even though I don't feel like I even use that many. From my everyday essentials to the never to be bought again and from the over-hyped to the unexpected favourites, I hope there's at least one product review you find helpful. If not, hopefully you just enjoy the video!

Weekend Finds (MINI HAUL)

Today, I met up with my best buddy, Lucy, for a lovely catch up as she's back from University for the next month. After our obligatory Starbucks we had a mooch around the shops and as usual we both ended up with a little handful of goodies. We're such a bad influence on each other. I thought it would be nice to share today's finds with you, bit like a mini haul and I've never done anything like this before so I hope you like it!
SHOP MY FINDS:
Stripe Pocket Tee from Topshop (buy here) • Stripe Racer Vest from New Look (buy here) • Big Blue Bath Bomb
from Lush (buy here) • Catastrophe Cosmetic Face Mask from Lush (buy here) • Gold Cut Out Hoops from Accessorize

As you can probably tell I'm a sucker for anything with stripes, so I couldn't resist stocking up on some stripe tees. Perfect with a pair of skinny jeans for an easy, casual summers day outfit. I've been making sure I use up all my Lush products before I buy anymore and as I've managed to do just that, it was time to start stocking up again. I didn't go too crazy in Lush, just bought a new bath bomb and a face mask which I'm really exciting to try. I have only used the Oatifix face mask before and found the consistancy quite annoying, so asked which mask the lovely ladies at Lush recommended and decided to give Castatrophe Cosmetic a go. It contains chamomile and blueberries which is meant to be really soothing and great for sensitive skin. Lastly, I purchased something that I usually wouldn't wear. Earrings. I can't remember the last time I wore them but lately I've had an urge to and can see it becoming my latest obsession.

Have you treated yourself to anything new this bank holiday weekend?

Spring '14 Must Haves * PART TWO: Dark Side *

I've shown you my fairytale chic, spring must haves inspired by Aurora from Disney's Maleficent and now it's time to embrace a more sinister side, inspired by the gothic glam look of Maleficent herself. I love wearing pastels and florals during spring but I still need a little grunge running through my look, so here are my gothic inspired spring must haves for those of you who like to break the rules.

1. ASOS: Oversized Fedora Hat, £28 (buy here)
Spring is all about statement hats. Not only do they keep your neck and face protected from the sun but they ooze style and glamour. You've got to love it when you can mix both style and practicality. Oversized Fedoras, like this one from ASOS (which I personally have) completes any look, whether that be with a classic white tee and jeans, a 60s style swing dress or a bohemian festival look.

2. Sheinside: Black Lens Round Sunglasses, £8 (buy here)
Not a fan of really girly, bright coloured/floral sunglasses? Then, go for a sleek pair like these matte black ones from sheinside for an ultra chic, 'too cool for school' vibe. Black sunglasses suit most people and look fantastic paired with a bright coloured lip. I'd wear either Lady Danger (bright red) or Candy Yum Yum (bright pink) both from MAC.

3. River Island: High Waisted Denim Shorts, £30 (buy here)
Denim shorts are a classic must have for spring and an item you can wear year after year. Black denim adds a grungier feel to your look but can easily me softened by adding a floral headband and sandals. These would also be great in the winter, just pop on a pair of thick tights along with a cosy jumper and you're good to go.

4. NARS: Semi-Matte Lipstick in Fire Down Below, £18.50 (buy here)
There's no rule saying you have to wear only bright colours during the warmer months, so if you want to rock the vampy coloured lip look, then go for it.

5. Topshop: Ramble Leather Sandals, £55 (buy here)
Heeled sandals are a must have all year round at the moment but even more so during spring. If you don't feel comfortable walking in a slim heel then these block heeled ones from Topshop are the answer to wearing this trend in comfort. For an uber feminine look, wear these with a summer dress of your choice or a pair of skinny jeans and peplum top for a sophisticated, more formal look.

6. New Look: Tile Print Fringe Kimono, £22.99 (buy here
Whether it be velvet, lace, floral, short or maxi, everyone needs at least one kimono in their closet this spring. This one from New Look will add some character to any outfit in need of a splash of colour and would look fantastic with all the items featured in this post.

John Lewis • THE EDIT *Blogger Photoshoot*

You may or may not have heard about a very exciting opportunity I had the other week with John Lewis, who in celebration of their 150th anniversary wanted three bloggers, including myself, to style out some of their exclusive designer items. Having never let anyone take photos of me for my blog let alone be on set at a professional photoshoot, the whole scenario was completely alien to me. A part of me wanted to decline the offer purely because I'm so awkward in front of the camera when I'm not in control and I generally have next to no faith in myself when it comes to things like this. My anxiety has made me miss out on a lot of things in the past and I wasn't going to let it ruin this fantastic opportunity for me, so I took a deep breathe and went for it. I thought what's the worst that could happen. I'm so extremely happy I took a leap of faith because everyone was lovely and I had one of the best times I've had this year. If you want to check out the finished result and shop the looks then continue reading. Before I go, can I just say I strongly encourage you all to step out of your comfort zone once in a while as you may pleasantly surprise yourself. If I can do it, so can you.

Dunorland Park + Outfit of the Day

Last weekend we had such nice weather (which in typical English style has gone) and on Monday when it decided to hit 25 degrees, Douglas and I thought it would be the perfect chance to head down to one of our local parks to soak up the sun. I hadn't been to Dunorland Park for years and I had forgotten have beautiful it is. As my previous 'outing' post went down well, I thought I'd take you along with me again and this time do a mini outfit post too as I've gained a little confidence with others taking my photo after the John Lewis Shoot (write up on that coming soon).

Spring '14 Must Haves * PART ONE: Pastels *

If you have read my previous post, you will know that over the next six weeks I'll be creating content for Disney's Maleficent and here it is, my first post, where I've first taken inspiration from one of the leading characters, Aurora. Her fairytale chic look ties in perfectly with pastels which is always a key trend for spring and one that I'm very fond of. So, here are a selection of my favourite must have items for spring.

1. Choies: High Waisted Floral Shorts, £18 (buy here)
The high street has been full of patterned trousers and jackets the past year and for good reason; they're the perfect way to look stylish, smart and cute, what's not to like? Although as the weather warms up these maybe aren't your best options but this doesn't mean this well tailored trend has to end. Simply translate fabulous patterned fabrics into a classic, spring must have, shorts. These ones from Choies are chic and inexpensive.

2. New Look: Cat Eye Sunglasses, £4.99 (buy here)
Sunglasses are without a doubt a spring must have and the great thing about them is that they can add so much to any simple outfit. As of late, I have been lovin' cateye sunglasses, you can't help but feel super sassy in them and these clear, nude ones go well with almost any look.

3. Ciate: Nail Polish in Poppet, £9 (buy here)
Pastel coloured nail polishes are a quick and fairly cheap way to bring your look into spring. My personal favourites for spring have to be Blanc by Essie (white), Rose Hip by Barry M (light pink) and ANY lilac nail polish. I have so many different brands/variations of lilac nail polish, it's become a slight obsession of mine.

4. ASOS: Daisy Hair Band, £8 (buy here)
Adding flowers to your hair, whether it be with a floral crown, headband or hairband, instantly adds a touch of spring to your wardrobe and if you're on a budget, is a lot cheaper than buying new clothes. This daisy hairband from ASOS is adorable and if you're not feeling the whole flowers in your hair thing, then they would look just as lovely around your wrist or ankle. Also, these would look great for any festival look.

5. The Leather Satchel Company: Mint Green Satchel, £75 (buy here)
In celebration of a new, warmer season why not swap your basic brown/black everyday bag for a cheerful pastel coloured one. I swapped my worn out bag for a white one from Vagabond (buy here) which I'm completely in love with. It's a little impractical but I love it nonetheless. If you're after a more classic look with a modern twist, then there are some amazing pastel coloured satchels around and this mint green one is good enough to eat.

6. Topshop: Giggle Geek Shoes, £28 (buy here)
A spring look is not complete without a pair of sandals. If you don't want to break the bank but still want a good quality, practical and versatile pair of spring sandals then these nude ones from Topshop are a safe bet. These would look lovely with both jeans/trousers and dresses/skirts without clashing.

7. River Island: Floral Print Coat, £65 (buy here)
I live in England, which means the evenings are still chilly and it rains way too much for my liking, therefore us Brits have to be prepared. Lightweight, pastel coloured coats are ideal for spring as they scream summer time whilst keeping you warm and dry. Perfect. If you're feeling brave, then this floral coat from River Island would look amazing with a pastel pink shift dress or if you're feeling a little shy, it would also look fab with a white tee and light wash jeans.

Which items do you wear or see yourself wearing this spring?

Homeware Haul • H&M, IKEA & MORE (VIDEO)

A few months ago I moved into my very first flat and with that came a huge amount of homeware shopping which I was more than happy about. You may have already seen my collective homeware haul over on my YouTube channel but for those of you that haven't, I thought I may as well add it to the archives of my blog. I honestly find myself wanting to spend more on bits for my flat than I do clothing nowadays. It's just so much fun decorating the home exactly how you want it for the first time and making it your very own.

100 Acre Wood

I'd love to start documenting days out via my blog and not just my vlogging channel on YouTube. So, I'm starting off with a little detour my boyfriend, Douglas and I took to 100 Acre Wood on our way home the other day. It was a the perfect day for a walk in the woods and who wouldn't want to roam around the home of Christopher Robin and friends? In all seriousness, it's days like these that make me feel so grateful to live in such a beautiful part of England - I guess they don't call Kent 'the garden of England' for no reason. You can't go to 100 Acre Wood and not go to Poohsticks Bridge to play Pooh Sticks, so that's precisely what we did and I obviously I won (the child in me got way too into the game). As this wasn't planned I only had my phone to take photos on but I hope you enjoy them nonetheless!

"And that was the beginning of the game called Poohsticks, which Pooh invented, and which he and his friends used to play on the edge of the Forest. But they played with sticks instead of fir-cones, because they were easier to mark."  - The House at Pooh Corner - A.A.Milne

Introduction to Disney's Maleficent

In anticipation of Disney's upcoming film, Maleficent (released on May 28th in the UK) I will be creating content on behalf of Disney and I couldn't be more happy to work alongside such a well-known and loved brand. For those of you unfamiliar with Maleficent, it is the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the classic Sleeping Beauty. The film reveals the events that hardened Maleficent’s (Angelina Jolie) heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora (Elle Fanning), only to later realise that the child may hold the key to peace in the land.

So, where do I come into all of this? Well, I'll be creating content very similar to what you're used to seeing on here, but inspired by either Maleficent's gothic glam or Aurora's fairytale chic. Expect wish lists, outfit ideas, spring trends, a touch of beauty, interior inspiration and a load more. Both characters are completely different meaning there should be something for everyone across the next six weeks of posts. This will all be featured on the Maleficent Hub where yourself and other users can logon to be the first to check out all my content as well as other exciting content channeling fairytale chic and gothic glam.

When I was little I had Sleeping Beauty on videotape which I would watch repeatedly, so to see the story brought back to life from another perspective along with an amazing cast has me so excited to watch the film and of course, create content for you lovely lot!
